GH and DAYS score big ratings gains

Both General Hospital and Days of our Lives significantly amped up viewership leading into the November Sweeps period.

November Sweeps is kicking into high gear, but General Hospital and Days of our Lives have already gotten a big head start in the ratings.

Both soap operas saw considerable gains in total viewership for the week of October 23 through October 27: GH added 219,000 new viewers, bringing its grand total up to 2,750,000; DAYS added 156,000 new viewers, bringing its grand total up to 2,298,000.

GH's bump was likely due to the return of Steve Burton and the Tale of the Two Jasons storyline beginning to unravel, while DAYS' gains came from a combination of Chandler Massey's return as Will Horton, the downfall of Bonnie, and Eric and Brady butting heads in the wake of Nicole's exit.

As for CBS soaps, The Bold and the Beautiful added 32,000 new viewers, bringing its grand total to 3,562,000; The Young and the Restless -- while remaining in the number one position -- actually saw a decline in total viewers, losing 23,000 and coming in at a grand total of 4,456,000. The week marked the conclusion of head writer Sally Sussman's material.
