The Young and the Restless has decided to keep Dr. Ben "Stitch" Rayburn on the canvas longer than expected, and portrayer Sean Carrigan is thrilled.

Viewers of The Young and the Restless haven't been sure what to expect from Dr. Stitch Rayburn, who made a surprise return to Genoa City in June and has since decided to move back after accepting a job at the hospital. As it turns out, the powers that be might not have known what to expect from the character's return, either, because the storyline twist that has Stitch staying in town wasn't originally in the cards!

According to the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, Y&R recently decided to ask portrayer Sean Carrigan to stay "beyond his original limited run," and fortunately, the actor was all too happy for his short stay to be extended into a longer one.

"I'm game for wherever this goes," the actor told the outlet when he returned earlier this summer. "I'm happy to be here. So, we'll see what happens. To say I'm more than thrilled to be back is an understatement."

Though he's happy to be back on the canvas at Y&R, the actor has been extremely busy because he's been juggling another project while working on the CBS soap opera. He recently booked a movie called Grace Point and shares that the shooting schedule in North Carolina overlapped with that of Y&R -- but he was just able to make it work.

"It's a psychological thriller/horror film and let's just say my character is the antagonist and the opposite of Stitch," he previews of the film. "I'm really excited about it because it also includes Jim Parrack from 9-1-1: Lone Star, Charlie Esten from Nashville, who's now on a show called Outer Banks, and also Johnny Lowe, Rob Lowe's son. So, we have a pretty awesome cast, and I'm really excited about that. Luckily, the dates for shooting the movie and Y&R all worked out. I'm able to sneak the movie in and then get back to Genoa City."

Some of Carrigan's other credits since he departed Y&R in 2017 include American Vandal, Lucifer, Everyone is Doing Great, and the Oscar-nominated film Ford v Ferrari.
